Over the last few days I asked my readers to throw some questions my way about what they would like to know about me. Here are some of the questions they asked and my answers!
Q: Bluegills or Crappies?
A: This is a tough one for me because it completely depends on whether I am ice fishing or hitting open water. To be honest, in the open water months I generally have a tough time catching crappies and during ice fishing I have never caught any bluegill. So, I tend to target both of them but at different times of the year. If you ask me which I like better... Well, that's a tough one, so I'm going to throw a curveball at you and say I choose largemouth bass. AKA: My all-time FAVORITE target species.
Q: Do you do any public land hunting?
A: Yes! All of my life, despite growing up on 26 acres, I've ONLY hunted public land. This year will be the first year I do any private land hunting. With that being said, I will still hit the public spot my family has been visiting for years. Public land hunting definitely comes with a fair share of challenges, but that is something I've always enjoyed about it.
Q: Bucket list fish?
A: At first I thought this would be an easy question but the more I think about it the harder it gets. My first bucket list fish would definitely be Lake Sturgeon. They are so majestic and I admire them so much, it would be the thrill of a lifetime to reel one in. But then, there's Lake Trout, another fish I've never had the pleasure to target yet. Plus, I keep having dreams about trout fishing... Maybe it's a sign? Not to mention the fish of 10,000 casts, the Musky, that's high on my list and I WILL be targeting those in a couple of weeks! However, if we are talking about a species far from home, the answer is definitely Peacock Bass. Dang, do those look like fun... But to round it out to a top 5, I'm going to add Smallmouth Bass just because I cannot believe in all my years of bass fishing with my dad that I've NEVER caught a smallie... So there you have it. Sturgeon. Trout. Musky. Smallies. Peacock Bass.
Q: Hunting or Fishing?
A: FISHING, hands down. I've only ever hunted whitetails and I am not great at sitting still for long periods of time. Not to mention Minnesota hunting season gets to be a little on the chilly side and I am definitely a bigger fan of steaming hot weather. Throw me in a boat or a kayak for 8 hours and I am much happier than sitting in a tree for the same amount of time. I've been fishing since I was old enough to hold a little Snoopy pole and it will always be my first love when it comes to the outdoors.
Q: Will you ever make videos?
A: I would LOVE to make videos for a YouTube channel or IGTV someday! First I need to finish modifying my kayak so I can figure out where I would put a camera mount, then I'd have to get an action camera. A GoPro is out of my budget at the moment and I would like to have a good quality camera when I do start that adventure, so it will probably take some time for me to actually get all that up and running. But, who knows, maybe it will happen sooner rather than later?
There you have it, those are the main questions from this round of Q&A. If you have a question that wasn't answered, feel free to send it my way. I am happy to answer! Either shoot me a message on Instagram, Facebook, or hit up the Contact Page. You can also leave any comments below.
